The film career of Lindsay Lohan has been in unofficial limbo for the past four years as the former child star has contended with one legal mishap after another. On Thursday, the 24-year-old actress officially began house arrest on charges related to jewelry theft, and is expected to serve 35 days of home detention, according to reports.

Perhaps coincidentally, the Gagosian Gallery took the opportunity to announce Thursday a new art project by Richard Phillips that is titled ‘Lindsay Lohan’ and stars the young actress as herself.

‘Lindsay Lohan’ is a 1 1/2-minute art film that features the actress in a series of luxurious poses and enigmatic, direct-to-camera stares. The Gagosian said the film references such movie classics as Bergman’s ‘Persona’ and Godard’s ‘Contempt.’ Phillips, who directed the film along with Taylor Steele, has addressed notions of celebrity culture in his paintings and other works of art.

A spokeswoman said that the film was shot in Malibu just a few weeks ago. There are no plans to exhibit the work in the U.S. as of now, she said, but it will be shown as part of the Gagosian’s Commercial Break project in Venice this year.
