London's Astoria gets dismantled in timelapse video

A company called Lobster Pictures, working on behalf of London Underground, has put together a timelapse video of the capital's historic Astoria venue being demolished.

The theatre, which helped launch the careers of hundreds of British rock bands over 25 years, was demolished in 2009 to make way for the capital's Crossrail project.

In the video above, uploaded in August 2010 but still worth watching, you can see the slow dismantling of the venue, exposing of its cavernous interior. It was shot from TfL's webcam in its offices in Centre Point, across the road.

That demolition is now complete, and construction on the Crossrail station due to take its place can begin. The first trains are planned to run on the line in 2018.
